WNS Column: Wilds' War Cry: Matt Hardy Won, Wrestling Tag

So I know I said that I would stay away from the random sports references after last week, but I was so shocked that Matt Hardy won a match, that I am really looking for one now. Something like he is batting… no, never mind. TNA Impact’s main event was a pleasant surprise this week, four talented faces in an elimination match, and I hear we have a tag team tournament starting? I love tournaments! I also thought the premiere of Tyrus as EC3’s new bodyguard was interesting. I find this amusing also because Derrick Bateman (EC3) and Brodus Clay (Tyrus) were on NXT together not that long ago, and I felt they were both talented in their own ways. EC3 is a favorite of mine, and Tyrus cut an amazing heel promo when he lost season two.

I have spoken enough about TNA recently. Let us move on to how the NXT divas are killing it. Although Carmella’s ring music is a blatant rip off of that “Fancy” song, I like what I see so far, and am all about her pairing up with Enzo and Big Cass. Also, have to give respect to Renee Young for the Kitty Pride reference. Becky Lynch and Charlotte had a good match, with both girls showing off, and showing that they came to fight. Charlotte has really improved, and seems to have a good chemistry with Lynch. The main event was also good, with Zayn and Kidd flying all over the place.

Smackdown began with a cool match between Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler. Other than my normal question asking who I have to pay to see Ziggler win some matches, I want to know why they did not tease Rollins contemplating if he should cash in on Ziggler. That contract is for any title, and if they want us to believe the IC belt is worthwhile, this is a good way. Ambrose could still come out and interrupt, leaving Dolph with his belt and Rollins realizing he should hold on to the briefcase and wait for that perfect moment. Ambrose has some fun quotes, like talking about his lucky boot. The Miz looked good, and the Dust Brothers—as I shall now call them—are beginning to master the fun creepy promo.

Raw had a decent opening and a strong six man tag match. I know some people are getting tired of seeing Usos and Sheamus versus the Dust Brothers and Miz, but everyone involved is a decent worker—though I hear someone shouting angrily about Sheamus in the background now—and I am just happy that Miz…I mean Mizdow, got the pin. The promos were on point, featuring Ambrose, Rollins, and my old buddy Mick Foley, as well as that bit from Paul Heyman, whom I loved seeing take that RKO. Ziggler and Cesaro tore the ring up, and need to have more matches. We now know that Cena versus Orton in the cell will grant the winner a chance at Lesnar’s title. This seems like a ploy to raise the stakes and appease Orton, who supposedly wants to take time off. Not the best reason, but I was going to say Orton needed to win this match anyway, sending him to face Lesnar and most likely lose. This seems like the more interesting outcome, as I have no interest in Lesnar taking on Cena again.

To round this week’s column out, Vicky Earls (@VickyEarls) tagged me in a wrestling thing, so here are the questions and my answers.

Name your Top 3 favorite heel characters of all time

Triple H, Roddy Piper, Chris Jericho

If you could create your own Women’s division, who would be your top five picks?

Sarita, Paige, Beth Phoenix, Gail Kim, Velvet Sky

You have to name, create (give it a theme) and choose various matches for a PPV. Go wild and be creative.

The event would be called Russian Roulette, where wrestlers face off in a King of the Ring style tournament, but a wheel is spun before hand to determine the type of match. No normal matches, everything from falls count anywhere to championship scrambles (who remembers that?), and the participants are randomly selected out of the pool of selected talent. It all boils down to a four way match where when each person gets a pin (elimination match), they get to spin the wheel to receive possible title matches, but one part of the wheel says YOU’RE FIRED. Zack Ryder would win it all…

Make your own announce team.

Bobby Heenan, Renee Young, CM Punk

What old school match do you wish you had seen in person?

Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker 1

What would be your theme song and who would sing it?

Singing? Nah, my theme would be heavy bass and distortion; mofos going to know when my ass is heading to the ring, and they’ll know to be scared.

Okay, enough of that. I do not do this tag thing, so consider anyone who read this and wants to be tagged, tagged. My question for you guys would be: if WWE held a King of the Ring tournament next month, who would you have win the event and receive a push?
